22. Golden Ticket (Season 5, Episode 19)
“I’ve got a golden-ticket idea. Why don’t you skip on up to the roof and jump off?”
Michael’s flights of whimsy could often be a distraction. However, they rarely caused lasting damage. That’s what makes “Golden Ticket” so delightful. It involves the existence of a massive screw up (due to Michael’s careless distribution of discount coupons in the Dunder Mifflin paper supply in an effort to mimic Willy Wonka). Additionally, the episode features the potential for big consequences, and Michael’s shady efforts to evade them (poor Dwight). “Golden Ticket” works because at no point does Michael look anything other than very, very stupid.
