While Morgan’s alleged presence certainly served as a cloud during the latter portion of King’s time with CNN, his health might have played an even bigger part in his eventual exit. King had previously suffered a major heart attack in 1987 (just two years after taking his spot at CNN). The then 44-year-old required quintuple-bypass surgery as a result of the attack, and has since used the ordeal to start several foundations towards heart research. He’s even written two books on the subject.
