In 1966, Trebek became the host of the Canadian quiz show Reach for the Top. Then, in 1970, he graduated to hosting the more prominent, nationally televised Canadian game show Jackpot. But by this time, Alex had exhausted all of his opportunities at the CBC and was yearning for something more – perhaps a gig in the United States.
