The Wire — perhaps the most unique drama in television history — focused on a different subject matter, in relation to the law, each season — such as the drug trade, city government, education and the media. Set in Baltimore, the show featured a good number of traditional character actors (Dominic West, Idris Elba, Wendell Pierce) turning in exceptional performances during the show’s five-season run.
