Back in the day, Stannis Baratheon was determined to claim the Iron Throne and rule the Seven Kingdoms. One of the people standing in his way was his brother, Renly. Stannis enlisted the help of Melisandre to take down his younger brother. After the two have sex, Melisandre gives birth to a shadow-like creature. That creature — which resembles Stannis — kills Renly. This would be the only time Melisandre uses this tactic on the show, despite it being a common occurrence in the books. Why didn’t she utilize this skill against future rivals on the show?
