As Seau struggled to adjust to retirement, his symptoms became more troubling. In addition to his memory loss, Junior began to act out. He became short-tempered, he began to drink and gamble in excess, became distant and would routinely miss appointments. Then, on October 18, 2010, Seau was arrested for domestic violence. Hours later, Seau left a voicemail for his ex-wife, Gina, saying that he was “sorry” and that he “didn’t want to hurt you (Gina) or the kids anymore.” Seau subsequently drove his SUV off of a 100-foot cliff but survived the fall. He would later tell police he fell asleep at the wheel.
