Dr. Omalu

Dr. Bennet Omalu – whom the film Concussion was based on – first discovered CTE in football players back in 2002. Following the death of former Pittsburgh Steeler Mike Webster, Omalu performed an autopsy and concluded that Webster suffered from CTE as a result of his football career. Personality change, mood disorders, memory loss, depression, anxiety and behavioral problems – including aggression and violence – are all commonly associated with CTE. After examining the brain of another former player, Terry Long, in 2006, Omalu asserted that his brain resembled “a 90-year-old with advanced Alzheimer’s.”
