Seau’s decision to forego his senior year at USC was two-fold. Not only was he good enough to make the jump, but heading to the NFL a year early would provide the financial boost necessary to help his family. With the hometown San Diego Chargers holding the No. 5 pick, Seau was determined to stay at home. After Indianapolis took Jeff George with the No. 1 pick and the Jets went with Blair Thomas at No. 2, Seau only saw one team standing in his way of returning home – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
