During his peak in the 1970s, Pride broke the mold of a typical country music star by becoming the genre’s first ever African American superstar. His greatest claim as a performer came during the mid 70s when Pride became the best-selling artist from RCA Records since the great Elvis Pressley. Pride, a former minor league baseball player, put down the glove to record several No. 1 hits including ‘I Can’t Believe That You’ve Stopped Loving Me’ and ‘Wonder Could I Live There Anymore.’
