The comparisons between Twitty and rock icon Elvis Pressley are inevitable, though the former stayed more true to his country roots through the entirety of his career. Twitty enjoyed some success as a solo artist, but didn’t truly take off until he formed a partnership with fellow country star Lorretta Lynn. The pair won four-consecutive Country Music Association awards for vocal duo from 1972 to 1975.
