17. New York Dolls
The Dolls tend to fall into a few categories (hard rock, glam rock), but punk is certainly the preeminent one. While its sound drew raves, especially with early albums New York Dolls (’73) and Too Much Too Soon (’74), the band’s biggest influence came via its look and attitude. Groups like Kiss, Motley Cure and some at the top of this list can attest.
