2. The Clash
While the Sex Pistols put forth the over-the-top punk persona, The Clash did so in the sound and attitude. Punk was meant to be about anti-establishment and doing what one wants, to a certain degree. These Londoners did so through a sound that also included funk and rockabilly. Joe Strummer and Mick Jones are punk rock royalty and 1979’s London Calling is one of the best albums – from any genre – ever recorded.
