4. Sex Pistols

The Sex Pistols initial run was less than four years, but its lone studio album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols from 1977 is considered one of the greats of all-time. Led by singer Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), the Sex Pistols played the role of punks perfectly and it was important to push, or even tear apart, the envelope to fit the punk bill. The band was rude and obscene, but led the punk movement in the U.K. and knew exactly what they were doing to draw attention.
