9. Green Day

Green Day had a dedicated and loyal following well before it broke out with its major label debut Dookie (1994). What followed was a journey that’s taken the East Bay boys to astronomic heights as one of the biggest bands, not just punk, in the world. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre’ Cool are essentially a corporation and have even enjoyed theatrical stage success with 2004’s American Idiot being adapted for Broadway. Often called ‘sellouts,’ Green Day was the face of a pop-punk movement and continues to ride that wave with no regrets.
