12. The Damned
Fronted by the somewhat reclusive and gothic singer Dave Vanian, The Damned is credited as the first U.K. punk band to put out a single – 1976’s “New Rose.” It?s also considered one of the true pioneers of goth rock, thanks in part to Vanian’s baritone voice and look. While The Damned tend to get overlooked within the U.K. punk scene of the late ’70s, it?s importance should not be understated.
