7. Duran Duran
Around the same time Blondie was emerging, U.K. band Duran Duran was emerging as one of pop’s most respected groups. 14 of the band’s singles made it within the top-10 of the charts. Pairing melancholy themes with upbeat accompaniments, Duran Duran simply appealed to the masses in a real way. The band’s mastery of synth-pop enabled them to sell over 100 million records (a mark the band is still improving upon currently).
