One of the more entertaining rock stories around, is that Claypool auditioned to be Metallica’s bass player following Cliff Burton?s death. However, the band thought he was simply too good for the job. Whether the group was serious or not is questioned, but there is no doubt how good the eccentric Claypool is, as showcased by his work with his band Primus (“Jerry Was A Race Car Driver”). Claypool is one of the more versatile bassists from an execution standpoint. He slaps, taps and whales, all while always seeming to have a good time.
