Determining The Best Rock Album Every Year From 1994-2018

1995 — Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness — The Smashing Pumpkins

It’s the Pumpkins’ most ambitious project, and one that actually showcases the entire band instead of just leader Billy Corgan. “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” and “Tonight, Tonight,” are just a few of the tracks that helped Mellon Collie become a smash. Yet deeper cuts like “Galapogos,” “Muzzle,” “Porcelina of the Vast Oceans” and “Thru the Eyes of Ruby,” make it one of the greatest rock works of the 1990s.
