19. A Simple Favor

Paul Feig is known for the cult series Freaks and Geeks, and more recently with successful comedy blockbusters Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy. With A Simple Favor, the director takes a turn and shows a side of himself and the stars, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, that we haven’t seen before. It’s probably his best work to date, but people missed it because they wanted a big, laugh-out-loud comedy. Instead, what he actually did was create a highly stylized film that is equal parts dark comedy and mystery.
