40. Braveheart – William Wallace’s kilt

The kilt is such a stereotypical piece of Scottish attire that it’s hard to accept that it didn’t exist in the 13th and 14th centuries, when William Wallace fought for independence against England. Not that Mel Gibson, who plays Wallace in Braveheart, would let silly facts get in the way of a movie where he gets to bash the British. After all, he proudly dons a kilt throughout the whole thing.
